IT Systems Administrator (Linux)


As a member of the IT team, the IT Systems Administrator is responsible for ensuring the stable operation of Linux servers, applications, and services running in a physical and/or virtual environment. This position supports a 24/7 operation consisting of numerous web and client server applications serving customers located across the United States.  There is a high expectation in availability, performance, and scalability to support the tremendous needs of our clients


  • Create, update, deploy, and maintain workstation and server OS images
  • Troubleshoot and optimize Linux servers and installed software
  • Maintain and modify scripts to support business processes
  • Document system installations, configurations, policies, and procedures where necessary
  • Act as escalation point for tier 1 helpdesk support team
  • Propose, design, and implement solutions for security controls
  • Perform upgrades and version management of 3rd party applications
  • Availability during limited off-peak hours (evening/weekend) for planned downtime or emergencies

Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience):

  • 2-4 years being a production level systems administrator
  • one or more virtualization and/or containerization technologies
    • e.g. VMWare, Hyper-V, RHEV, Docker, LXC, chroot
  • Linux OS administration
    • e.g. Red Hat, CentOS, Debian, Arch
  • Programming with one or more scripting languages
    • e.g. bash, python, php, perl
  • Standard Unix/Linux command-line programs
    • e.g. sed, grep, awk, find, ssh, etc.
  • Building, configuring, and securing LAMP and LEMP web application servers
    • Focus: Apache, NGiNX, MySQL, PHP, PHP-FPM)
  • Server backup/restore processes
  • 4-year degree or related field or equivalent work experience

Relevant Skills and Technologies, though these skills are not required:

  • Database server administration experience (MySQL, MongoDB)
  • Email server administration experience (sendmail, postfix)
  • Knowledge of internet, network and endpoint security
  • Knowledge of compliance standards (PCI-DSS, HIPAA) Relevant technical certifications
